Uses of Enchantment

By Jeffrey Neuman

After the great success of Zeus' Women, we were very excited to premiere Jeffrey Neuman's first full length play, The Uses of Enchantment.   The play centers on Etienne (a young man), and a storyteller brought together in confinement.  As the various tales unfold, Etienne's imagination begins to bring the stories to life and through these fairy tales he is shown the triumph of the human spirit over adversity.

Jeff has developed several plays with Stage Left.  One such collaboration, Zeus' Women, was later presented at the Playwrights Showcase of the Western Region and the Colorado Community Theratre Coalition Festival where it garnered several awards for Stage Left.

Mr. Neuman's plays have been produced at theaters and festivals in New York, Denver, San Diego, and various other venues around the United States and the United Kingdom.  His work has been recognized with awards from the Claire Donaldson Festival, Chameleon Circle Theatre New Works, the Front Range Playwrights Festival and North Park Playwrights, among others.  His most recent play, Assisted Living has been short-listed for awards across the country and is currently being developed in conjunction with Emerging Artists Theatre in New York City.

Under the direction of Jan Justis and Greg West, an ensemble of eight actors made up of Stage Left veterans and fresh faces to the Salida stage brought a variety of characters to life.
